An opportunity always presents itself, even in difficult situations; it’s what we learn in class, but it also applies to life outside the gym. For us at Apprentice, the difficulty we faced in having our equipment made thousands of miles away also compelled us to expedite our plans for an American made gi. Today marked a significant milestone in our quest to revolutionize the manufacturing process.
Today, I tried on a linen, mostly finished gi of our own design.
Ugly, yes. But also beautiful. It was like the first time I actually understood a technique, when it was still a little sloppy, but the key details were in place. A breakthrough moment. In the coming weeks, we’ll share some of what we have planned, but at the risk of teasing ‘something big’ let’s just say it’s going to be cool.
There is still much work to be done to make this gi a reality, but when it’s finished it will mean another job that was brought back to America. It will also be much, much more.
Enough said, go train and always be learning.
